Just a quick note to say well done to Olivia (Team Leader), Jack Dunham, Will Marley & Grayson Seaton of Team "Wiggle Woggle."
These are the first scout team from 2nd Ramsbottom to take part in the Pike View Hike competition.
It was a 22km walk that started with kit check at 07:44. And they returned shattered after 7:30pm..... so nearly 12 hours of challenge! I think there were only a minor number of getting lost moments.
Total score 605 / 860. Final position 18th out of 41 Teams. A fantastic achievement for our first ever entry. Brilliant!!
Thanks to all our chums in St Josephs, Greenmount and the District Team who all made this such a well organised district camp. And a HUGE thank you to the Pike Hike Organisers for a wonderful competition.

Please pass on a huge THANKS to your whole team for the organising and running of this year’s event. Not only was it very well organised (the twitter feeds were very useful), and you could not have hoped for better weather, but the calm and friendly manner of all those officiating made it a thoroughly enjoyable event for all involved – thank you. Our Scouts (teams 35 & 36) while being quite tired at the end, were very pleased with their performance in getting round and all really enjoyed the event, I send on a few pictures as evidence !
The opportunity to send Scouts out on their own without an adult to rely on at every turn is such a great learning experience for them, their initial worries and nervousness being quickly overshadowed by the good memories and feeling of achievement at the end. Thanks for making this happen.

Just got back to South Leicestershire after a brilliant weekend on Bibbys Farm.
Wanted to say a huge thankyou to everyone involved, it was a superbly run event and much enjoyed by our Scouts & Leaders.
Hope to be back next year, if you’ll have us, to see if we can improve on our 19th (Scouts wanted top 20 so were very happy)
Inspired me to think about restarting our District challenge hike, wish me luck!

Greater Manchester North
Pike View Hike was started 10 years ago by 6 people, including District Commissioner, Paul Mather.
It is now organised by a small team led by Mike Marsh and has strong links with the Bolton mountain rescue team, which is a great partnership.
This year saw more than 320 participants in 79 teams of Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts who were taking part in the three hike challenges around Rivington Pike.
It was great meeting with the many participants and to hear about their fun and adventure.
Flourishing success
It is great to see events like this flourish. They really do bring together so much of what is behind our success, including young people demonstrating skills they learn in regular meetings, from map reading and compass work to the benefits of teamwork and leadership.
All of this is done with leaders either walking with them in the case of the Cub Scouts or shadowing from a distance and manning the bases.
It’s an incredibly sophisticated operation that Pike View has developed to track participants, estimate times and to ensure that everybody completes the event safely. This was a great way to end my brief insight into Scouting in Greater Manchester.

Can't thank you enough for the fantastic time our scouts had this weekend.
Saturday was something we've been working towards since starting our scout group in May last year, and it exceeded all expectations along with being a great success.
Please pass on our thanks to the whole team, and we'll be back next year for sure, and will be able to help next time. The date suits better with SATS and we will know much better what to expect.
In the end one scout we've been working on to join in finally put himself forward on Friday lunchtime, so after all the issues we were able to enter two full teams of scouts of the correct ages. Thanks for all the help giving us options to secure the hike for our scouts after one of our key guys pulled out, finally resolved!
I look forward to catching up on the results on the website (we missed Sunday due to all bar two scouts being in year 6 and parents pulling them back for SATS), unless it's handy to drop them on email.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for putting on the event. It was as awesome as I expected. My cubs loved it! The checkpoint was fine in the end. The walk wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t 20 minutes! Really enjoyed a middle checkpoint, we had a constant stream all day. Not sure if you saw my tweet earlier. If teams didn’t ask to sign in I’d ask them if there was anything they’d like to do whilst they were here. One team asked to “sit down”. Pike View 2013 gone in the diary and David, you still owe me a pint, the bacon butty didn’t count (but was appreciated).
